CSH Rotary - February 24, 2021

Meeting began at 7:33am with Chris Davis leading the meeting.

Susan Grimes provided some opening words.

Chris Davis and Dennis Barton discussed their experience with delivering meals via bus.

Fritz Horton reported on the Shelburne clock tower. More testing will be happening on February 25. The plan is to have it all fully operational for Town Meeting Day (March 2). It will ring on the hour from 8am to 6pm every day (and see if people in town comment / complain).

The group discussed the work to help with school lunches. Jonathan Lowell and Linda Barker reported on work with the Shelburne school kitchen. Each box had seven days worth of meals for the kids (typically two meals). Jim Donovan added some comments about his work with Charlotte.

Lynne Jaunich, CVSD Board Chair, said she and the schools were so grateful for all the help from Rotary for getting the meals out. She said the schools could not have done this without the help from Rotary.

Susan Grimes reported on work to install the bike rack. Aiming for a third weekend in May. Looking at doing a “spin-a-thon” to raise funds for bike racks for Charlotte and Hinesburg. The dedication of the Shelburne bike rack will take place after that. Jessica Brumsted suggested seeing how we could add a virtual component allowing people to participate from their homes on a stationary bike. There was good discussion about that idea.

Lynne Jaunich, CVSD Board Chair (Charlotte), and Colleen MacKinnon, CVSD Board Vice Chair (Hinesburg), then presented about the state of the Champlain Valley School District and the upcoming budget vote. There was a good discussion on many different points.

Nancy Danforth provided closing words and the meeting adjourned at 8:30am.
