Keith started us off at 7:30am.

Last Saturday was Green Up Day and several CSH Rotarians participated, picking up wine bottles, beer cans and bottles, cigarette butts, and, unfortunately, coming upon a dead deer.

Bottle deposits that aren’t returned will be given to Vermont’s clean water fund.

Bob Sanders noted there was a $2,100 difference between what we took in and what we spent for Changing of the Guard and what we took in. Bob is proposing we split the difference with the District. Richard Fox will submit the invoice by June 30.

Carole reported that CVU is trying to raise $5000 for graduation at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds. CVU is also looking to get a keepsake for each graduate, as well as signs for each graduate’s home. There’s a suggestion to give $500 to CVU, but Charlie noted we had made a decision as a Club to provide our donations to the Food Shelf. As of the first of May the Club’s balance is $17,600, with a check for $600 going out to ClubRunner. We still owe for the scholarships and we’ll get some funds from the District for the Changing of the Guard. Roughly, we will have about $11,000 of discretionary funds. Joan suggests we coordinate with Williston Richmond Rotary Club and ask them to donate as well. Margo suggested we check in with CVU to see how much they’ve already raised.  Funds are being managed by CVU and any leftover funds will be held over to benefit future classes. Keith proposed we donate $250 to CVU. Denis moved to donate $250 and Ric Flood seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

Reminder to give $10 a week to the Club and pay dues of $230 by June 15.

The Bishop of the Episcopal Church has not made the decision to open the churches yet. When we are ready to convene we will need to ask the head of the Trinity Church. France’s suggestion is to have a Plan B for in person meetings. Jessica had a conversation with Mark Levine and he stressed that the pandemic isn’t over and we should all stay safe and stay at home.  If we have questions we can email him and he’d be happy to respond.

Chris will continue to noodle on the location of the Changing of the Guard. The plan will be to have something Friday, June 26.

Richard is hoping we can reengage in the purpose of Rotary, which is service.

Keith reminded us of the intent of Rotary International, which are so prescient right now.

  • Promoting peace
  • Fighting disease
  • Provide clean water
  • Saving mother and children
  • Supporting education
  • Growing local economies

In light of the events of last week, the idea of promoting peace and ending racism on a global scale. For Rotarians, it’s so important to be kind to all. Next week would be a great time to start working on service and fundraising plans. If we all did for others as we wished others would do for us, the world would be a better place. A symbol of love is wearing a face mask, above all to protect others.

First thing to do is to be kind, and second see differences and see how we are the same.

Lots of love!

Respectfully submitted,
