Trafton Crandall introduced our speakers today, the three recipients of our scholarships: Lena Ashooh, Lena Kerest, and Chloe Landers. Each of the recipients provided an inspirational view of what they have done and what they are planning to do at their colleges or universities.

Chris Davis rang the bell to start the meeting at 7:34am.

 

Laurie Burke provided opening words from both Ben Franklin and Socrates.

 

Carrie Fenn indicated that for food distribution we have a couple weeks more where we need volunteers in Charlotte. We will need some volunteers to help in Shelburne over the summer. Please send 

 

The fundraising effort for bike stations is now over $7,600 and we can now fund multiple stations in our three towns. Dan York suggested that we do some kind of promotion and survey to involve the communities in identifying locations. Susan has suggested to Laurie Burke that we have a small bike committee to figure out what we do next. Several people were interested in participating.

 

Linda Gilbert provided info about the school garden project in Charlotte. We have the opportunity to sign up for a week between June 6 and August to help that.

 

Chris indicated that the next race in June. Several people will participate in helping.

 

Chris said the tree seedlings from Rotary International are in the mail. There was brief discussion about needing to connect with the towns to determine the best locations.

After the recipients all spoke and were congratulated, the meeting continued with a brief talk by John Lowell about his history and how he came to be here in Vermont and in Rotary.

 

Chris mentioned that he and Susan will be looking at a second location for potentially starting to meet again in July.

 

Ric Flood will be sending an email to all members asking them to confirm if they want to continue as members. We need to know by the end of June as Rotary International will charge us dues for all members as of July 1.

 

Keith Walsh read some inspirational words from John Adams.

 

Linda Gilbert provided our closing remarks from Elie Weisel.

 

Chris closed the meeting at 8:31am.
