Hillary Keating - Jim Donovan introduced Hillary, physical therapist and co owner of PT360.  She grew up in Brandon, Vermont, graduated from Columbia University and lives in Richmond with her husband and two daughters.

Hillary talked to the club about Stress Management and her profession, how closely linked the two are.

Discussed the symptoms of stress: pessimism, insomnia, change in appetite, dry mouth, etc.  How chronic stress effects our bodies negatively, by releasing cortisol which then creates chronic conditions in our body, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases.

Why do we need physical therapy for stress management?  Simply because from a Musculoskeletal perspective, poor posture will lead to pain, mostly in neck and back, which in turn develops more stress, creating the pain/stress cycle.
Physical therapy works to educate the patient and demonstrate how to become self aware of the stress and how it affects our bodies.  Then, exercises and alternative methods are introduced to assist the patient with healing.  Acupuncture and a change in routines are just two of these methods that can be introduced.

Jim Donovan presented Hillary with two books to be presented to the Shelburne Library in her name,  “Stretching Exercises For Seniors” by Michael Smith and “6 Minute Core Strength” by Dr. Jonathan Su,
