Jim is the Cultural Heritage and Recreation Coordinator of the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership and Lake Champlain Basin Program.  Jim has been all over the U.S. in a variety of positions and has lived in Shelburne for twenty five years where he is a member of the Shelburne Fire Department and the Boy Scouts of America.

Melding Cultural and Natural Stewardship for a Better World.

LCBP’s mission is to coordinate and funds efforts to benefit the Lake Champlain Basin’s water quality, fisheries, wetlands, wildlife, recreation, and cultural resources affecting the quality of the Lake Champlain basin.  He is the cultural resource coordinator working with stewardship of the lake and its vitality and cultural heritage.

He also has this role with the CVNHP or Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership. When the question was asked, should the Lake Champlain basin be designated as a national heritage area? The National Park Service came in and reviewed three main themes.  The Corridor of Commerce, Making of Nations and Conservation & Community, with the latter being his area of focus.

With the focus of his work being art, the CVNHP created a connection between salmon and the basin with their International Year of the Salmon project, as well as marking the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act at Lake George in 2022.

In 2024, they will focus on the Champlain-Adirondack Biosphere, a UNESCO site, creating art with the importance of this critical program.

Finally, the LCBP Artist in Residence Program at the Bluseed Studios Community Arts Center in Saranac Lake, Friends of the Mad River, Clemmons Family Farm, Adirondack North Country Association and Adelard in Quebec are all art programs currently in progress or about to begin.

Jim Donovan presented the book Lake Champlain: an Illustrated History to be donated to the Shelburne Library.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35.
