Adam Bartsch, in view of next week’s visit by a representative from the Vermont Nurse Association, asked for and received an affirmative vote to present the VNA with a $250 check.  He also took a poll of members as to how many get the District Newsletter by Email. Anyone who doesn’t receive it is asked to contact him (Adam) or Steve Dates.

Steve Dates announced that on August 28th, The Rotary International and District 7850 gave the State of Vermont $418,000 for Irene Relief.  Of this, Rotary Clubs donated $238,000 around the world. We should all be celebrating this generosity by telling our friends and neighbors.

Steve Dates began the two-month countdown for the Halloween Parade, which will be held on Sunday, October 28th this year.

Bob Sanders spoke in behalf of Bill Root of the need for parkers at Shelburne Farms Harvest Fest on September 15th.  A sufficient additional number were signed up.

Speaker

Ms. Karen Lawrence Vermont Mobile Pack

The Mobile Pack National Program provides almost 125,000 scientifically developed, high-nutrition meals throughout the world every year.  The Vermont chapter has just begun to act with its own program, named “With Love from Vermont.” The overall program seeks to alleviate the suffering of the 18,000 children who died every day from hunger and malnutrition.

Mobile Pack addresses the problem in four ways:

  1. Produces scientifically developed food packets - Rice, soy, and dried vegetables with a vegetarian faux chicken flavor. The powder is mixed with water.
  2. Worldwide distribution model using 150 distributors made up of NGOs, missionaries, and other relief agencies in over 70 countries
  3. All food is packed by volunteers
  4. Christian non-profit with no restrictions on who gets the food.

Last year they distributed 124,300 meals, costing 22¢ apiece, packed in packets of 6 meals, by nearly half a million volunteers.  Vermont Mobile Pack will be hosting a packing event at the A.D. Lawson Middle School in Essex, VT on October 19 and 20 and they would welcome any volunteers.  Each packing session lasts only two hours and it is an ideal opportunity for families.  There is an age restriction of over 5 years old.  Donations are also welcome.
