CSH Rotary Meeting of February 21, 2018
by Judith Christensen

Past President Judith Christensen called the meeting to order at 7:30 am.
At Roz Graham's suggestion, Judith read The Object of Rotary to the members as follows:
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
SCOUTING RECOGNITION:
Judith updated members on the current status with Charlotte Boy Scout Troop 615. CSH Rotary continues to hold the charter but the troop is no longer actively chartered because there are no longer any scouts registered. The remaining funds from the Troop are in a separate account and will be used to either start a new troop or cub unit in Charlotte or expand the availability of scouting in some other way.
Judith introduced David Buley, Committee Chair for Shelburne Cub Pack 607. David talked about the successful growth of the Pack over the last several years and the addition of the Lion's program for kindergartners. The den has also brought in some very active adult leaders. The new program to include girls will be launched soon and Shelburne Pack 607 will be one of the first involved in it. This program is not meant to replace Girl Scouts or even to compete with it. Boys Scout of America will only be referred to as BSA from now on. The program will continue to emphasize leadership skills, community service and outdoor experiences and skills. Trafton Crandall presented the annual check of $500 to David for the Pack.
MEMBRESHIP:
Ric Flood reported that Carrie Fenn was posted last week for membership. This is the second notice and she will be eligible for induction at next week’s meeting.
BUSINESS:
Ric Flood announced to the membership that the Annual Fund Drive is officially beginning. His office will send out emails today or tomorrow to each member with their lists from last year. Each member is expected to have at least 10 names with addresses ready to go in a few weeks with April 15 (Tax Day) as the target date for completion. All members have to do is supply the names and when Ric brings the letters to meetings, add a personal note and signature. Judy recognized the enormous contribution Ric makes to this effort and the expense he absorbs by using his office staff for the project. Ric reiterated that this is our largest fund-raiser with the least amount of effort on the part of members. The goal is to raise $20,000.
COMMUNITY SERVICE:
The Pancake Breakfast in Hinesburg is scheduled for April 7 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church. The fund-raiser is a benefit for the local Food Shelf and to be a presence in Hinesburg. PR was discussed and will be started in March.
