President Trafton noted that there was too much money (more than $50,000) in the Club bank account and that it is his intention to pay some of that down. He briefed an amended budget for the rest of his year.  The board had approved to achieve this purpose and a draft budget change. The Club budget commitments for this year came out at $12,400 and the board approved an additional $9,300 for further donations this year. The Club was asked to approve these expenditures and they unanimously voted for approval. Details are at the end of this newsletter.
Thank You Letters - Received from The Shelburne Players and SOLAS, a program to support an Afghani Girls’ School. President Trafton announced that the Rotary International Fishing Tournament will be held on the lake in the first week in June. It is run by the Plattsburgh Rotary Club.

Speakers. Molly Goodyear speaking on The Value of Social Media
Goodyear is President of 802Social in Ferrisburgh.
Opened with fact that many small businesses don’t understand the ROI or value of social media. She proceeded to cover a number of points to consider when going into social media. Social media is not as static as with a web site. It’s ‘real time’ to focuses on your customers. Different vehicles (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) are good. Use pictures and video. Use to drive customers to your website.
  • Humanize your brand by:
    • Telling your story
    • Making a connection with your audience-
    • Build a relationship, a conversation that builds trust.
    • Pay attention to their responses
    • Show that you are moving forward, not just static – Show behind the scenes, what’s going on.
    • Show emotion, include pictures, videos (Good example – The Bearded Frog)
    • Prove that you can be considered a leader in your field or industry (Example: Northfield Savings Bank). Give example of community action.
  • Drive Traffic to your Website
    • The purchase is done there.
    • Use customers’ information for future marketing opportunities.
      • Good examples are travel agents who offer free cruise drawings to get addresses.
  • Insight/Listening/Engagement
    • Determine the Value – Check whether your efforts are making a difference, e.g., Google Analytics which tell you how many people are hitting on your efforts. Gauge your success.
    • Collect Information
      • Promote
      • Listen
      • Engage – Answer your visitors. This encourages sharing with others.
  • Now What?
    • Start simple on one or two platforms. See if it is working first then move onto others.
    • Develop -
    • Master – get good on one and then expand
    • Expand – go to more
Questions centered on how to get on social media. Members were encouraged to “Share” the Rotary Club page. When you “Share” it will repost it out to your personal friends on Facebook. You are encouraged to make a comment. When you “Boost” a posting, you pay an amount to target your reposting (for instance Charlotte, Shelburne, Vermont …. Only).
