Charlotte Shelburne Hinesburg Rotary
Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, 7:30 a.m.
Trinity Community Room

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a devotional given by Tod Whitaker.

Loss of a Rotary member and friend
Trafton Crandall announced the loss, on Tuesday, of Alan Bates, an enthusiastic and supportive member of Rotary.

Budget report
Treasurer Trafton Crandall presented the plan for the 2019 budget. Because of the difficulty of seeing the Power Point presentation, he will post the details of his report on the CSHRotary webpage for members to review. Voting will take place at a future meeting.
There was lively discussion on the subject of our fund-raising programs and spending.
Ric Flood explained that our annual letter-writing campaign raises funds that go to the Rotary Foundation. He expressed concern that only 19 Rotarians participated in the most recent letter-writing campaign. Having a Foundation account gives us the flexibility to give a tax benefit to donors, even those who make an in-kind donation.
Routine giving has been $22,000, some of it committed and some discretionary.
It was suggested that we need a more formal process for requests and feed back. Ric will bring a proposal for that process to the club for approval.

Challenge to the Club
- a fund honoring deceased members
- find a way to improve fund raising with more involvement by members
- more strategic timing of campaigns – e.g. letter-writing in December
- car raffle return to fall, close to the time of the parade. Book the Coach Barn early.
- Golf Ball Drop in summer (like this year coinciding with Shelburne Day)
- all members give their list of names they will contact to Ric. “It’s a slam dunk,” he said. If everyone  contacts 10 to 15 names we would have a very significant campaign.

Coming meetings:
Oct. 10 -- Jeff Nick – real estate guru
Oct. 17 – Jim Carol from Rice Lumber
Oct. 24 – Club Assembly
Oct. 31 – John Dupee Classification Talk

Announcements:
Linda Gilbert – Charlotte Beach house work on Oct. 13
Charlie Kofman -- the Walk for the Light raised $117,000. There were 15 donations from CSH Rotarians who walked. CSH Rotary donated $500.
Tod Whitaker – two more Farmers Markets in 2018 – Oct. 6 and 13.

Halloween Parade
Richard Fox reminded everyone that the parade will be on Sunday, Oct. 28. The Fire Department will participate, the route is to be decided because of road construction, he needs signups for jobs, needs hay bales.
