Speech Competition:
Judy Christensen introduced the three speech competition speakers and each of them spoke for five minutes, focusing on Rotary’s Four Way Test and the Rotary Motto: Service Above Self.
Olivia Machanic of Shelburne, a junior at CVU, spoke of her love for the game of lacrosse and the opportunities it gives her to share her love of the sport with young children by volunteering as a coach.
Noah Kiernan of Charlotte, a senior at CVU, talked about the opportunity that volunteering with the Unified Games project at CVU, which opens up sports activities to many students who would not otherwise be able to play sports due to physical or mental challenges, has been so rewarding to him personally.
Isabelle Sharp of Shelburne, a senior at CVU, applied the Four Way Test to the work she does as a volunteer for Outreach for Earth Stewardship.

When the judges returned from comparing their ratings of the speakers, they announced that Noah Kiernan was the winner and will represent Charlotte Shelburne Rotary in a competition on Feb. 24 in Vergennes against speakers from Middlebury and Vergennes. Congratulations to Olivia, Isabelle and Noah for their fine and thoughtful speeches.
The Club agreed that having the speakers present their speeches to our club before going on to District competitions was a very fine opportunity for everyone, and this will be our practice for future years.
