When all the world appears to be in a tumult, and nature itself is feeling the assault of climate change, the seasons retain their essential rhythm. Yes, fall gives us a premonition of winter, but then, winter, will be forced to relent, once again, to the new beginnings of soft greens, longer light, and the sweet air of spring.

Sadly, we have no contestants for the speech contest this year. Hard to say if it was the topic or the pandemic or the prize, but there was no interest among our service towns students. Next year we will try to start earlier and get the word out.

The Spin-a-thon is on track for May 22 at the Field House. Susan is getting the sign up information up and ready to go live. All Rotarians will get the info to put on their social media pages. Prizes for the top three fundraisers and possibly a bike safety clinic will be part of the festivities. People can pay to spin or not to spin. The Spin-a-thon will go from 8-10 and there will be a plaque dedication at 11:00 at the bike station.

The Shelburne Dog Park will have a Smooch Your Pooch for St Patrick’s Day, so go take a selfie with your dog to celebrate the luck of the Irish!

Lauri Burke gave us a classification talk today. She’s lived in Shelburne for 30 years with her husband and two daughters. Although born in Ohio, she moved to South Burlington when she was two. She’s led an exciting life! When she was 30 she took a trek around the world, living on a sheep farm, riding elephants in Thailand among other adventures. She loves to write and is an excellent story teller. She is hoping to get a dog someday!

Nancy has our closing words from Barbara Kingsolver

Hope is a renewable option

If you run out of it at the end of the day, you get to start over in the morning.

Have a great week!
