Announcements
Car Raffle – Ric Flood reported that with eleven or twelve days to go there are still three tickets not taken and there are thirteen regulars who have not reported in. Of these ten are regular procrastinators. He needs everyone possible to get out there and sell Pumpkin Raffle tickets and refer potential car raffle ticket buyers to Ric ASAP. Every other part of the program is sorted out except there is still the need for two more desserts. Linda Gilbert circulated a list.
One $275 Pumpkin Raffle ticket was drawn and won by John Beal (he had bought a large number of tickets.)
Halloween Parade – Dave Rice reported that all went well for the Halloween Parade. There were a few glitches regarding balloons and hay, but they were straightened out at the last minute. Thanks to Gary Marcotte for helping sort out the hay. Doris Sage has signed on as clown coordinator next year. There will be a hot wash-up at the next board meeting.
Shelburne Veterans’ Memorial Bricks – Sam Feitelberg reports that they have raised almost $87,000. This is the last call for bricks. They only have 200 more bricks before the first installation is planned and installed.
Newsletter Editor Needed – John Hammer reported that this is his last newsletter. He asked for volunteers (none were forthcoming). It’s an important job that provides critical information to the membership and also forms the basis for the club history. Please contact him at HomeportVT@gmail.com if you have interest.
Sergeant at Arms – Evan Webster presiding. No official fines were levied today.
Kris Engstrom – Ecstatic fine as she is off today to hug her grand boys.
Joan Lennes – For a great Halloween Parade.
Phil Denu – Today’s the day???
Linda Gilbert – Husband, daughter, son in law and grandson are all well after a serious car-deer collision. Car is pretty badly off.
Chris Davis – Looking forward to Halloween in beautiful downtown Charlotte.
Sam Feitelberg – Enjoyed being with the vets in the Halloween Parade.
John Dupee – Condolences to the deer.
Dave Rice – Happy the parade went well.
Michael Clapp – If you want to see real happiness, take a three-year-old girl dress shopping. He did that and his granddaughter had the shop in stitches. For Doris Sage who  finished painting the Hinesburg shed.
Judy Christiansen – A dollar each for George, Terry and John Dupee who made her laugh during the entire parade.
Jim Donovan – Sorry to have missed the last meeting and Halloween Parade. He was in Arizona at an accreditations meeting.
Terry Kennaugh – For Judy and her dog. He was happy Judy had a plastic bag and she needed it.
President Richard – Thanks to all for making the parade a success. He was happy to have one of his daughters in his golf cart. She had a wonderful parade. Thanks particularly to Gary for baling (Sic) the club out.
Lara Keenan – Had a fantastic time in NYC last week. Sorry to have missed the parade.
Doris Sage – For a great parade.
Gary Marcotte – For the mouse who was transported to the parade in a bale in the back of his truck, but who got out and was finally let out of the truck the next morning.
Evan Webster – Happy to see the growth in punning during his SAA period.
Richard Fox won the draw and picked the Four of Clubs. Rollover the $72.00 pot.

Problem solving involves: -
  • Universal approach
  • Deliberate process
  • Engagment in break-through thinking
  • Leading to more creative innovative solutions
  • Preferences – how we like to solve problems.
There are four stages in solving a problem:
  • Clarity – Details, facts, history
  • Ideate – Brainstorm
  • Develop – Take one idea and make it better – planners
  • Implement – Take action.
Each person has a preference for a strong area of interest. In facing a problem, what do we each want to do? Which of the four stages do you wish to be in?
Clarity – How have we approached the problem before?
Why it’s not happening
What are the reasons for the problem?
What is the real problem?
Is it the right problem?
Ideate – Brainstorm possible solutions
Big picture thinkers – look for opportunities
Come up with as many solutions as there are.
Develop – Take one or more ideas and dive in deep to ensure the solution is effective.
Implement – Do it – make it happen. Make sure you can work with mistakes.
When you are stuck, step back and evaluate the problem and identify which of the four areas need be addressed and who can participate in which stage.
She sent everyone into four corners of the room by self-selecting which stage they felt they preferred. When asked to define what they were doing in problem solving, they came up with the following answers:
Clarity – Focus, Identify and prioritize
Ideate – General vision for solution, scope or options, the options themselves.
Develop – Set directives, select option, evaluate if it will work and choose the right way.
Implement – Get it done.
To arrive at solutions, one just makes sure that the stages are considered and that the teams are cross-functional.
