Announcements

Mexican Makeups – David Gladstone reported that he has just returned from several weeks in Cancun. He made up at the Cancun Downtown Club with is in the city of Cancun away from the hotel zone where there are a number of English-speaking make-up clubs. He recommends the Downtown Club as they assign a translator to each visitor and treat you like royalty. It meets at 7AM, but he did not state the day of the week. Check the RI website.

Shelburne Farms Maple Fest - Bill Root will need a number of parkers for the Shelburne Farms Maple Fest. There will be two shifts on Saturday (9:00-12 Noon and Noon to 2:30) and one on Sunday from 11-2:30. Five hundred cars are expected so he is looking for three or four per shift. Sign up this week and next. Lists will be circulated.

Jim Spad’s Humor

An old and very orthodox Jew was alone at a restaurant. He saw no one from his congregation and decided this might be the only chance he would ever get to try pork. And so with much trepidation he went ahead and ordered it. It was a while and he was surprised to see a roast suckling pig come out with a baked apple in its mouth. Just then his rabbi walked in and seeing his congregant with the pig put his hands on his hips and gave him a look of utter disdain.

To this, our friend said (in his best Jewish accent), “So…. I ordered an apple and I didn’t know how they’d serve it. “

Sergeant at Arms – Twelve more days until St. Patrick’s Day

Howard Seaver – Apropos to this story about a kosher Jew Howard recounted a story about his Jewish mother who kept a strict kosher home and was brought to the Arbors with Alzheimer’s. Howard made a point of ensuring that the staff knew of his mother’s kosher requirements, but there was nevertheless some concern. He did relax, however, after about a year his mother asked him, “Howard, now what is it that I’m not supposed to eat?”

Sam Feitleberg – Thanks to all who were concerned about his daughter Debbie who has now gone into full remission from a serious bout with cancer.

Tod Whitaker – The first Farmers’ Market will be held on May 31.

John Hammer – Happy for Sam Feitleberg’s daughter and for a motion his committee had put forth at Town Meeting had been passed. The motion concerned the determination of and voting on the town budget.

Bob Sanders – Happy to be back from rehab. That is, he and Martha had just spent several months in Florida rehabbing a condo.

Dennis Webster – Happy to have his granddaughter’s artwork being displayed at the University Mall through March 7.

Fritz Horton – Will be happy when he finishes taking the artwork down - his wife is one of the teachers responsible for the show.

Eric Hanley – Won a large football pool. Accordingly he felt he could properly celebrate his 51st birthday today with $51.

Ric Flood – Happy to be back from five long days at a business meeting in Las Vegas.

Terrill Titus – For three wonderful weeks in Florida. While there, her favorite client, who just happens to be her daughter, was rear-ended and was unhurt, but the car was a total loss. Needless to say, she was very properly insured.

Linda Barker – Son’s birthday today.

Dave Rice - Got out the famous Genie Jar from which everyone chose a table number when signing in. He chose the present Table #4 with all the ladies (until Adam Bartsch ambled up and joined him).

Linda Gilbert – Hopeful for spring and happy to have seen a flock of bluebirds on Monday.

Elaine Dates – Husband Steve, District Governor, is now down in Framingham, MA preparing for PETS.

Rosalynn Graham – Had to pay with a Canadian dollar. She was happy that a miracle happened Monday night at the Shelburne Town Meeting when an expected long and drawn out debate over Article X met with absolutely no comment.

Evan Webster – Welcome back Tela people.

David Gladstone – Happy for the welcome at the club and the chance to attend two meetings for one price.

Kris Engstrom – Happy to see the Genie Jar out again. She was happy to see 100 robins yesterday chowing down on her crabapple tree.

Howard Seaver – Just back from two wonderful weeks in Costa Rica.

Michael Clapp – For Terrill Titus looking so tanned and great.

Lara Keenan – For the March Conversation series today and next week. And happy that Kris Engstrom will be speaking on March 20 at the Pierson Library on the “Language of Flowers.”

Tod Whitaker’s table drew the winning ticket. He drew the Nine of Spades. Roll over the princely pot of $12.
Two tickets to a Shelburne Winery wine tasting and a souvenir glass were raffled off and won by our newest member, Evan Webster.

Speaker – Absent Today.
