Announcements

Club Donations – The board, at its last meeting, recommended $400 checks be made out to: the Vermont Nurses Association, The Burlington Emergency Shelter, Dismass House, Lund Home, and each of the Food Shelves in Hinesburg, Shelburne, and Charlotte. The approvals were moved and approved. The WARMTH Program contributions are being doubled by the Merchants Bank. Terrill Titus amended the motion recommending a donation of $400 to read $1,000 and this was passed unanimously.

Rotary Foundation

Pat Sokolowski announced that she has collected 20 donations to the Polio Plus program for a total of $2580. The club will double that to $5,160 and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will double that. She passed out the next installment of the Polio Plus Gazette. She also baked cookies for this morning. There was a suggestion that everyone who ate a cookie but had not contributed should now do so. That was a good laugh especially as there was a prominent banker in the room who fit into this category. We wonder who it was. The drawing for the famous Sokolowski knitted hat was won by Elaine Dates who said that perhaps she had just found husband, Steve’s, Christmas present.  Thanks to Pat for all the work she does in raising money and supporting the Rotary Foundation.

Holiday Presentation to Will

William Wisell, our breakfast cook and member, received a sizable pot of money collected for this purpose from the membership. He was thanked profusely and heartily, and is regular contributor to the meetings with his really wonderful breakfasts. Thank you William. William, in thanking the members, noted that he probably had the club’s best attendance ratings. President Dave also thanked Kris Engstrom for the lovely bouquets on the tables.

Christmas Turkeys

The Christmas turkeys have already been distributed to the Food Shelves in Hinesburg and Charlotte. Shelburne gets theirs today. The picture below shows President Dave presenting a turkey to Val Martel, the chair of the Shelburne Food Shelf.

Spad’s Humor –

Four old golf duffers were gathered together for their weekly round of golf. One of them remarked, “Wouldn’t it be nice on Christmas morning to roll out of bed, and without any fuss or bother from our wives, head off to the golf course and play a round of golf with our buddies.” One of them piped up and said, “Let’s do it, all we have to do is get them something special so they won’t give us any grief when we get up on Christmas morning and want to play.”

A month later that special morning arrived and there they all were on Christmas morning on the golf course.

The first guy says, “Boy this golf game cost me a fortune. I bought my wife a big diamond ring in order to get out to play today.”

The next guy said, “I am going to spend too. My wife is home with brochures all over the bed planning the cruise I gave her.”

The third guy piped up saying, “You think that’s bad, my wife is at home sitting in the new Mercedes reading the owner’s manual.”

They all turned to the last guy in the group and said, “Well what did you do to get out here today?”

His answer: “I can’t believe you all went to such an expense to get to this golf game. I got up, slapped my wife in the butt and said, ‘Well babe, it’s a great day for sex or golf.’   Her reply was, “Don’t forget to take your sweater.”

There was a follow up, one-liner:- Do you know why Santa is so jolly. Because he knows where all the bad girls are.

Sergeant at Arms – The vast majority of members today just paid a fine for wishing everyone a happy holiday season. Richard encouraged all to pay happy fines towards next year’s changing of the guard party so that there will be plenty of food and beverages. He pointed out that “A Rotarian is a terrible thing not to get wasted.”

Linda Gilbert – Taking both her granddaughters to see The Nutcracker on Saturday.

Chuck LaClair – Welcome Lara Keenan.

Terrill Titus – Loves being part of these wasted Rotarians. Is packing her sleigh with two cases of Heady Topper and heading off for Middlebury to see an unnamed attorney at an unnamed address.

Ric Flood – For the two new inductees and that Robert Maynes ate a cookie.

Robert Maynes – Headed to Maine for a few days.

John Hammer – Going skiing today and for son’s putting money down towards a house on Shelburne Point.

Tod Whitaker – Has 3 year old and 6 months old grandkids for Christmas.

Trafton Crandall – Happy to see his grandkids in NY and was out in Denver visiting his daughter who is carrying the next grandkid.

Roz Graham – Congratulations to Pat Sokolowski for having made the Rotary Foundation Campaign so much fun.

Terry Kennaugh – Happy his wife Jolie was here.

Jed – Happy for snow and happier that he is going back to Florida

Dennis Webster – Having his two best buds for Christmas this year.

Chris Davis – Happy to have had the chance to help his mother-in-law celebrate her 80th birthday.

Michael Lash – Happy his daughters are coming home for the holidays.

Joan Lennes – Had a great trip to Austria to visit her son and reported that this was her last attendance for a while as she starts the Legislature in the New Year.

There were two tickets being raffled off today – They were for a round robin college hockey game on December 27 or 28th. Terrill Titus won them.

Kris Engstrom had the winning ticket and drew the ten of Clubs.  Roll over the pot of more than $287.

Speaker – There was no speaker – This was the Annual Holiday Party.
