Ric Flood is overwhelmed by the response to the car raffle drive. He’s brought in over $7000. It’s the easiest Calcutta he has ever mc’d! Ric has letters for pick up for people who have given list.

Ric is inducting Laurie Burke as a new member today.

Laurie Burke is very happy to be joining our Club. Community service has always been very important to her. Her father was a Kiwanis member and he and his fellow Kiwanians built a rope tow for local kids, and that made an impression on her.

She works at the Stern Center writing and fundraising and is looking forward to helping our Club fundraise!

Laurie graduated with a BA from UVM and received her Master’s in teaching at Harvard. She lives in Shelburne with her husband and has two adult daughters. She feels she can offer Rotary a roll up the sleeves approach to work, writing for fundraising, and she finds our group to be a caring community of folks who have led really interesting lives. We are honored to have her as a member.

Michael Monte will be our speaker next week to talk about Harbor Place. Diane and Jessica have been thinking about some fun ideas for our meetings on December 23 and December 30. Maybe a recipe share for December 23 and Diana will be offering a day of reflection on December 30.

Coat drive is going well. Teams are sorting and washing and we are filling out the lists. Chris has done an amazing job organizing this across the three towns. We’ll debrief after it’s all done.

COVID has been hard on the fitness industry. Numbers are down to 40% of typical revenue.

Restaurants, bars, health clubs aren’t driving the current spike. Instead, it’s social gatherings and recreational sports leagues. The club has to provide 200 square feet per person, so they have turned some of the classrooms and Pilates rooms into cardio rooms. There are limitations on numbers of people in each room. Gyms have to take attendance and specify what room members will be in. Everyone must wear a mask, check in at the desk, get their temperature taken and specify where he/she is going, grab a washed Cloroxed rag and wipe down equipment before and after using it, throw the rag in a bucket for sanitizing. Members who get their heart rate up can remove their mask for a short period of time. For those that want a hard workout without a mask, they can isolate in the Pilates room and the room gets sanitized after the workout. WEARING A MASK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE CAN DO RIGHT NOW.

There are some classes happening in the field house with lots of social distancing.

We’ll be donating a book to the Pierson Library.

The Shelburne bell will be tested sometime this week.

John Hammer received a message from Mr. Dick in Tela that they made it through the night. Lots of gratitude for that.

Have a great week,

Respectfully submitted,

Carrie Fenn
