Jenna Kalosky, with the Council for Rural Development, gave us a preview of the July 27  kickoff event for Shelburne's grassroots community development project, "Shelburne Forward Together."
 
 
Our second speaker was Amy Nickerson, who spoke about her experience volunteering in Africa for "Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture", a U.S. AID program that promotes food security and sustainability.

Jon Hammer introduced Paula Spadaccini, Jim’s wife, who is here for the funeral this Saturday.

July 18 - Tuesday - the newly formed service committee will meet at 3:00 at the Shelburne Town Office. Amanda and Gail will join the group.

 

July 20 and July 26, Habitat For Humanity open house at new build on 90 Irish Hill Road in Shelburne. 

 

September 9 is the next RaceVermont race our club will participate in.    

 

September 15 - Golf Ball Drop - Donations are now available through our website and the QR code. Denis and Bob will be seeking volunteers soon and QR code cards and posters will be available. 

 

Per Joan, July 27, “Shelburne Forward Together” - they are seeking drivers for community event.  Jenna Kalosky, Council for Rural Development addressed the club about this event.  This event is the evening of the 27th from 4:00 to 7:30 with forums and dinner.   Carrie, Annette, Gary, Jessica Carol, Bob and Roz all volunteered to be drivers. 

 

Bob Glover introduced Amy Nickerson.  Recently retired from The University of Vermont as a Senior Lecturer, Emeritus, Department of Nutrition And Food Sciences.  She holds a Master of Science Degree from the University of Vermont and a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Massachusetts.  She has always been involved in nutrition and food insecurity and now volunteers with CNFA.

 

She is here today seeking volunteers for this organization, which is a USAID (United States Agency for International Development https://www.usaid.gov) /funding program.  Purpose is to improve food insecurity around the globe.  She has also volunteered with Catholic Relief Services.

 

CNFA provides technical assistance, improve food insecurity and leverage volunteers from the U.S.  Primarily working in Africa, they also have programs in Europe, South and Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. They are seeking volunteers in business development, communications and marketing, financial management and record keeping.  Other areas of expertise are available.  In person, remote and paired assignments are available, all expenses paid.  

 

Amy also shared her experience in Africa to the Katete College of Agriculture, where she worked with colleagues on the mission of CNFA.  https://www.cnfa.org/

 

 

Jim Donovan presented Amy with the book “The World That Feeds Us” by Nancy Castaldo to be donated to the Hinesburg Library.
