Rene Sanchez introduced Phil Jones from Transcend Education who is here to speak to us about the Hinesburg Community Schools acceptance into a nationwide program through Transcend Education along with ten other districts across the United States.

Phil shared the mission statement of the organization which is “unified in the mission to support school communities to create and spread extraordinary, equitable learning environments."
They teach, train and ask questions to determine how can the schools grow and learn to accommodate the unique experiences of rural education.

Our education system was built within an industrial model, unable to adapt to what children need today.  A lack of teachers, the pandemic, leadership, and all these things demonstrate how that model no longer works.  If we continue on this path, we’ll get the same outcomes and experiences for the students as we do now.

Rather than improve buildings and things, we need to reimagine learning into concepts such as artificial intelligence and internships.  Only by redesigning the learning environment and establish conditions for innovation to establish extraordinary equitable learning, will help us to change the outcomes and experiences.

This will be accomplished by implementing   “Leaps for 21st Century Equitable Learning” into these schools.  With ideas such as community connection, active self-direction and rigorous learning models for all involved can these initiatives be achieved.

See their website at www.transcendededucation.org for more information and how you can be involved.

The book “Learner Centered Innovation” by Katie Martin will be donated to the Hinesburg Library in Phil’s name.
