At this morning's meeting, Sonja Lunde, Director of the Fleming Museum, shared the current exhibits at the museum.

Sonja Lunde, M.A. Director, UVM Fleming Museum is our guest today.

Dan called the meeting to order at 7:30.

Volunteers have completed the Farmer’s Market set up and take down for the next couple weeks.

Purchase golf ball drop tickets and spread the word!  Sales are slow.  Twenty eight balls were sold on Shelburne Day.

Dan attended the “Shelburne Forward Together” event last night.  Three main initiatives were identified and will be a priority going forward.

September 9 is the RaceVermont event the club will provide parking and and food for. Rayne will provide the food which we will cook and distribute while selling golf balls.

September 23 is the Pickleball Tournament in Shelburne.  Carrie has a poster almost ready and Jessica created a sponsorship letter.  Nancy is point as Carrie is going out on the Long Trail for three. weeks!  Rene and his family will be providing food.

Denis introduced Sonja as the Director of the Fleming Museum. Sonja was born and raised in Rutland, VT and graduated with a BA in Art History from George Washington University and a Masters degree from the University of Utah.  She relocated here from Utah where she was the Deputy Director at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. She has a special connection to The Fleming because her grandfather was a naval photographer who had a photo at an exhibition at The Fleming.  He provided her with the love of art and museums! She also participated as an international exchange through Rotary International in France.

The Fleming’s goal is “Becoming A People Centered Museum”  - created in 1931 to amass collections for The University of Vermont and be a gateway to the community.

UVM has created a School of The Arts to bring together all the individual departments of art, dance, film, art history, etc. This change has had and will have a profound effect on the museum well into the future.

The goal is to unite people and harness the power of art.  Promote empathy, broad thinking, build trust and create engagement and inclusivity.  To be people centered, we have to ask Why? To do that, we need to define community,

The museum opens up for the season on September 5 and an opening reception on September 13.  They have renovated the galleries and a new look is exciting!

Dan presented “Palaces for the People: How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life” by Eric Klinenberg to Sonja to be presented to the Charlotte Library in her name.
