Congratulations to Jessica for receiving Rotary International recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Club Meeting and Legislative Update

Matt Lawliss, new Town Manager is one of our guests today.  Matt came from Virginia to accept this position.  He is already impressed with Shelburne and is looking forward to settling in and getting to know everyone.

Mike Niebur from the Champlain Valley Little League, former President, came to thank our club for their recent efforts to run the snack shack.  As part of the little league, the snack shack is a critical component of the experience for the athletes and the community.

Al Giangregorio and Jonathan Wolff also also thanked the club for this project

Ric presented Jessica a Paul Harris Award for her service.

Dan requested members sign up for the Farmer’s Market on Sign Up Genius. Our club occupies the tent once per month which requires participation but every week we are responsible for setting up and taking down, at 8:00 am and 1:00 pm respectively. July 1 is our next time to occupy the tent.

June 23 is the Changing of the Guard 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Backyard Bistro.

Carrie presented the budget for club approval.  The only difference is the member dues which is reflected in the revenue.  The couples club “discount” is now in effect.  Dues will remain the same at $275.   We added an additional $2,000 for scholarships due to monies received from the Jim Spadacinni memorial.

Ric Flood made the motion to accept the budget as presented. Jessica Brumstead seconded the motion. The club unanimously accepted the budget as presented.

Per Jessica’s update, the budget did pass, it is 3% higher than presented in January by the governor, so 13% higher over last year.

The childcare bill was vetoed yesterday by the Governor, an important bill to the people of Vermont and one Jessica has spent a lot of time on.

The budget includes Mental Health services that are suffering due to a lack of professionals in our state, primarily due to low wages.  Medicaid does not cover the expenses.

$145 per night was budgeted for the hotels to house the homeless during the pandemic. This program is ending.  The legislature requested a plan from the Governor,no plan was developed.

In addition to childcare and housing, the Department of Motor Vehicles will require increases in the fees.  Storm water programs, work force development, universal school meals, affordable and cleaner heat just to name a few!

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
